Senior Pastor Joyce M. Smith

Pastor Joyce answered the call to ministry in 1975 and was ordained as an Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in 1979. She served as an Associate Pastor at Community for 10 years, and in 1989 she was appointed by Bishop George Walker Sr. to pastor Pauline Memorial AME Zion Church in Salem, Oregon for 20 years…..Bishop Dennis V. Proctor in 2009 appointed Rev. Smith to Community AME Zion where she is currently serving as Senior Pastor.

Pastor Joyce has many gifts and talents that are used for the glory of God.  One of her focuses has been to empower women to recognize that they are fearfully and wonderfully made.  Pastor Joyce’s ministry is centered on inspiring a life of true worship and praise moving people to a real love and faith relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Scripture teaches us: in Matthew 28: 19-20 to Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Two specific words of commission direct the followers of Jesus Christ. The first word is “go”, which signifies that true discipleship is a dynamic existence characterized by energetic initiative.

The second word is “tell”  Jesus’ followers must tell people how to meet Jesus and then how to develop a ministry of inviting people all over the world to experience repentance, forgiveness, and discipleship. Jesus’ promise of his abiding presence extends to each new generation of commissioned disciples-“I am with you always”

Pastor Joyce is married to Jack Smith Sr. for 50 years. She is the mother of three sons and grandmother of four and great grandmother of one. Pastor Joyce loves her husband, and family along with her Church family. She has been an inspiration to many over the years! Way to go Pastor!
