Since 2004, Community A. M. E . Zion Church has participated in Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship Ministry. The Christmas outreach focus is to foster transformation and reconciliation in the lives of the children of inmates and their families through the power and truth of Christ Jesus and a gift at Christmas.

“All too often, the forgotten victims of crime are the children of inmates, who are left without a father, a mother or both parents – through no fault of their own. We all pay the price for this – the evidence is clear that children with a parent in prison are more likely to end up in prison themselves someday” (July 2004 letter from the Bureau of Evangelism of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion).

The members and friends of Community A.M.E. Zion Church, in Vancouver, WA, are working to help break the cycle of crime and the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness by sharing the best gift of all at Christmas – the gift that Christ Jesus loves them. , Community A.M.E. Zion Church, to-date, has purchased gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parent(s) and presented 191 children / teens with a gift of LOVE!
